The Origins of the Margarita
The true origin of the Margarita has always been a little mysterious.
Like many legendary cocktails, there isn’t one single confirmed story, but there are a few famous ones.
Some say it was created in Mexico in the 1930s or 40s, inspired by the classic “Daisy” cocktail.
Others claim it was invented for a dancer, an actress, or a guest who wanted something refreshing with tequila.
What we do know is this:
Tequila, lime, and orange liqueur became a timeless combination.
A drink built for sunshine, music, and celebration.
Why the Margarita Became a Global Icon
The Margarita didn’t just stay in Mexico.
It travelled fast.
By the 1970s and 80s, it became one of the most loved cocktails in the world, especially in beach towns, bars, and summer gatherings.
It represents something simple:
-
Fresh citrus
-
A touch of sweetness
-
The warmth of agave
-
That first sip that feels like holidays
Muchacha’s Take on the Classic
At Muchacha Brewing Co., we wanted to keep the soul of the Margarita intact.
Real tequila character.
Bright lime.
Balanced sweetness.
No shortcuts.
Just a premium Margarita, ready to pour, ready to share.
That’s why we created our 250ml canned Margarita at 10% ABV, made in Sydney, Australia.
And it’s also why we offer larger formats for venues and parties, like our cocktail mixers and keg Margaritas.
The Instagram Video, A Margarita Moment
Our recent Instagram reel was our way of celebrating the Margarita’s story.
From its origins to its modern comeback, it’s a drink that continues to bring people together.
If you haven’t seen it yet, head over to our Instagram and watch the full video.
It’s short, fun, and full of Muchacha energy.
The Margarita Keeps Evolving
The Margarita started as a simple cocktail, but it became something bigger.
A symbol of summer.
Of friends around a table.
Of music, sunsets, and good times.
And now, it’s also something you can enjoy anywhere, in a can, poured over ice, at the beach, at a party, or at your favourite venue.
This is the next chapter.
This is Muchacha.
